This taste of Tony Romo is everything Jerry Jones wanted

It had the feel and the look of an National Football League preseason game, as one team looked ahead to the postseason and the other to the offseason.

As Dallas heads to their game in Philly, the spread for the game hovers at 3.5 points favoring the Eagles, for no other reason that the Cowboys starters are being rested before the playoffs.

Prescott played just two series and Elliott not at all against the Eagles.

Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz played the entire game and completed 27 passes on 43 attempts for 245 yards and two touchdowns. Hick had a second interception before the game was done.

UP: Wentz to Ertz: It was a trend throughout the season, but the win over the Cowboys was the cherry on top of a relationship that could (and should) be the future for the Eagles. He rested the guys he needed to, he kept the team motivated to play in a meaningless game, and then pulled back at just the right time to hit the playoffs healthy.

The Eagles tried moving their ace linebacker Jordan Hicks outside, just to see what would happen. He made an appearance in a game, however brief, without getting hurt. On the AFC side, the byes go to the Patriots and Chiefs, as the Raiders vs. Texans and Dolphins vs. Steelers will all compete in the Wild Card round during the upcoming weekend. But then the Eagles got hot, changing expectations, then they didn’t, changing them again.

During the early action on Sunday, the Washington Redskins blew their chances at a playoff spot by losing 19-10 to the New York Giants.

Dak Prescott played two series.

Perhaps the most compelling storyline in Sunday’s game was the 2016 debut of Tony Romo, likely an audition for whichever trade partner (Jets, Browns, Broncos) the Cowboys intend to deal with this offseason.

Zach Ertz exploded for 139 yards and two touchdowns in the season finale as the Philadelphia Eagles (7-9) bested the Dallas Cowboys (13-3) 27-13.

The Dallas Cowboys left Lincoln Financial Field with a huge victory on Sunday. That drive lasted a season-long 8 minutes, 18 seconds. They wasted a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter and Prescott tossed a touchdown pass to Jason Witten in overtime. Instead, Caleb Sturgis connected from 22 yards out, and the Eagles led 3-0.

– Eagles rookie QB Carson Wentz’ 352 completions are the most in season in franchise history. The old record was 354, held by Sam Bradford in 2010 with the St. Louis Rams.

Look for former OR running back Byron Marshall to get plenty of carries for the Eagles (6-9) in the game. On the next play, Carroll conceded a 3-yard touchdown catch to Terrance Williams. But he also can cover most tight ends and slot receivers, offering ball-hawking abilities that are becoming more and more of a lost art.

We all knew that two-time American League MVP Mike Trout, a south Jersey native, is a huge Eagles fan.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been bragging all season about the chemistry in a delicate situation between his quarterbacks – along with the closeness of the rest of the locker room – and is counting on those bonds when Dallas opens the playoffs at home January 15.
