The movement calls for Black people to exercise their economic power by avoiding non-essential shopping from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, with the exception of Black owned businesses.
The company adds that from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday consumers bought a total of $11 billion in goods, a 15 percent increase over the same period in 2014.
“It can be exhausting for working parents and millennials to stay up past midnight to shop online, only to wake up early the next day to get ready for work”, Fernando Madeira, president and CEO of Walmart.com, said in a statement.
Cyber week starts now on most of top retailers. Thirteen out of every 100 product views resulted in an out-of-stock message – twice the normal rate, Adobe said. The Mercer County facility is the size of 28 football fields and where 4,000 workers are picking, packing, and shipping the millions of items customers are ordering on Cyber Monday.
That’s a 16 percent increase from last year, continuing to make it the biggest shopping day of the year, year after year. Mostly it boils down to convenience and whether retailers will continue to spread online sales deals throughout the Thanksgiving holiday week. And they no longer wait for Monday to roll out Cyber Monday deals, either.
It’s the 10th year for Cyber Monday. That puts sales on track for $3 billion, Adobe said.
However, there are plenty of deals enticing consumers today not related to Star Wars.
Target’s website was reported to be struggling under the load of Cyber Monday shoppers and endured crashes and slowdowns this morning, although service seemed to have improved this afternoon.
“A lot of retailers have found an excuse to have an additional round of sales”, said Perner. That could suggest troubles ahead handling the deluge of orders.

IBM meanwhile predicted Cyber Monday online sales would grow by more than 18 percent from a year ago, led by big-ticket items such as Samsung, Sony and LG televisions as well as Apple Watch and Beats headphones. That’s a 10 percent decrease in sales. The stocks of many major chains, including Macy’s, Kohl’s, Target, and Costco were down on Monday.
