Thompson lifts short-handed Warriors over Rockets

Having suffered only their second defeat of the season on Wednesday when Curry missed his first game due to a lower leg injury, the Warriors found just enough to compensate for the loss of the reigning league MVP and edged the Rockets.
Thompson poured in a game-high 38 points and hit a pair of pull-up jumpers inside the final three minutes to cap an 8-0 run that gave the Warriors (30-2) a 113-102 lead and stifled the Rockets once and for all. He was up clapping for Draymond Green as the big man repeatedly broke down the Rockets defense, finishing with 16 assists in his NBA-high fifth triple-double.
James Harden paced the Rockets with 30 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Asked to name the best player at each position in the NBA, Klay Thompson picked Warriors teammate Stephen Curry as the point guard and then paused.
At this stage, giving key players like Curry, Green, and Thompson a break could be a good idea for the Warriors to prep the team for bigger wars ahead, particularly by the second half of the season when most teams are expected to make a big run for the post season berths. The offense was holistically inept, managing 68 points through three quarters. Thompson scored an easy 39 points against the Pacers before an absolutely dominating 43 point performance against the Suns two weeks later. Rockets led through the first seven minutes of the game with a couple of 3’s from Harden and a strong effort defensively. Her daughter, Julie Tredemeyer, got her the best Christmas present her heart could handle: tickets to the Warriors-Mavericks game.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – J.J. Reddick scored 26 points and Los Angeles made 15 3-pointers in a wire-to-wire victory over Charlotte.
Oklahoma City’s dynamic duo of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant steered the Thunder to a 110-106 win against Phoenix.
Barton, who has averaged 23.1 points on 49.3 percent in the last eight games, could be getting some help. Howard blocked a shot by Livingston into the stands in the first quarter and shook his finger like Mutombo used to when he blocked shots, but the Hall of Famer hadn’t yet arrived…. George Hill added 15 points and six rebounds.
The Warriors suffered their second loss of the season and look to get back to winning tonight against the Rockets.
Nik Vucevic contributed 20 points and nine rebounds as the Orlando Magic beat the Brooklyn Nets 100-93, while June’s number one draft pick Karl-Anthony Towns had 25 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Utah Jazz 94-80.

Nerlens Noel scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Jerami Grant added 16 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks for Philadelphia, which won for just the third time in 34 games this season but for the second time in three contests.
