Thompson: Warriors show their championship mettle

Thompson’s three-pointer with 1:35 to play put the Warriors up 104-101. The Thunder won Game 3 133-105, tying a franchise record for points scored in a playoff game. The Warriors stunned the Thunder on Saturday night, as OKC had a seven point lead with 5 minutes left in the game. Stephen Curry fell just one assist shy of a triple-double on Saturday with 31 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.

Thompson scored 19 points in the fourth quarter – one more than the Thunder – to carry the 73-win Warriors to a comeback from an eight-point deficit. Thirty previous teams rallied from a 3-1 deficit to force Game 7 in a best-of-seven National Basketball Association playoff series.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the NBA Finals.

Thompson continued his impressive shooting streak into the second half, as, slowly but surely, it seemed as though the Thunder were beginning to unravel, as the stranglehold they once held on the series was suddenly evaporating and seemed to be no more. Ending a defending champions run is never easy, Klay Thompson and Golden State made sure there would be a seventh and deciding game. “We’ve got to be excited for this opportunity and know that it doesn’t come around often and take advantage of it”. They looked good in two of the three games in Oakland in this series, winning one of them too. Even Billy Donovan had a rough night, only playing Enes Kanter 11 minutes despite the Thunder outscoring Golden State by 15 points when he was out there. “We have another game to play”, Thunder guard Russell Westbrook said.

After falling behind 3-1 in the series against the Thunder, the Warriors now have history on their side.

“We know we’ve got another game to play”.

For the Thunder, Kevin Durant re-signing is potentially at stake, and for the Warriors a defeat would nearly be a slap in the face to such a historically incredible season.

Then Thompson, after Andre Iguodala took the ball from Westbrook underneath the basket, put Golden State ahead seconds later.

“It’s going to be a hard game”, Curry said. Game 6 has now become an instant classic tale of resurgence as the Warriors forced a tie-breaking Game 7 on Monday night.

The deciding factor in this highly-anticipated match up was Golden State’s 21 made three-pointers. “We have to play our best game and be physical, and be smart and execute our game plan 100 percent for a full 48 minutes, feed off our home crowd and give them something to cheer about”. “It’s going to be an electric atmosphere, and I think we’re ready for the challenge”.
