Those mourning death of Memon are anti-national:Sakshi Maharaj

Memon was hanged yesterday in Mumbai after a closely-contested judicial battle that was only settled less than a couple of hours before his eventual execution.

Eight members of the Memon family were charged over the attacks and all denied any role in the atrocity.

Memon was executed early on Thursday morning on his 53rd birthday after he exhausted all legal options to appeal against his death penalty.

How can capital punishment, killing someone to avenge killings or similar heinous crimes, continue in any civilized society? The Indian government should show the same urgency to bring the Muslim killers to book which they showed in Yakub Memon case. Former Gujarat minister Maya Kodnani and Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi were convicted of leading a mob that killed 97 people in Naroda Patia. “The Mumbai bombings were an elaborate operation planned and carried out by trained mercenaries who decided to kill the very same people with who they shared their lives since childhood”, Sudhanshu Mittal, a party leader from Mumbai said.

“We are disappointed. We respectfully disagree with it”, he stated while reacting to the court orders.

Critics question whether Memon’s death serves India’s larger interests, saying it sends the wrong message to potential collaborators with justice agencies.

Hurriyat said that the hanging of the Yakub Mamon has reopened the wounds of the Kashmiri nation and today the memories of the Shaheed Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and Mohammad Afzal Gooru are badly striking our hearts and minds who were hanged for no crime and whose dead bodies too were denied to their families. And I have repeatedly said the loss of one innocent life is equal to the loss of all humanity.

Police consider Memon’s brother, “Tiger” Memon, and mafia don Dawood Ibrahim to be the masterminds behind the attacks, intended to avenge the destruction of an ancient mosque by Hindu zealots in 1992. “The victims will never get complete closure”.

People even went on to say that only a convict can support another convict and so Salman’s bail from the hit and run case should be revoked.

The execution of Mumbai serial blast accused, Yakub Memon, in Nagpur jail on Thursday evoked condemnation and protests in parts of Kashmir Valley during which a legislator was detained from the capital Srinagar.

“Why did others come to see a man who was hanged”. He also concluded that though he not talking about Yakubs merit, he was commenting on the death penalty in opinion and practice. He said, “Being a governor, I am equally responsible for the country’s safety and security”.
