The crowd fell silent on Old Compton Street, Soho, at 7pm as a sign of respect for the revellers killed by the gunman. Media accounts put the crowd in the thousands, and LGBT site Pink News used the “standstill” term.

Various public figures, including Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, London Mayor Sadiq Khan and actor Andrew Garfield, were spotted at the event.

Let this be a wake up call for the LGBT+ community to stand strong, put aside whatever differences we get bogged down with and stand tall, together’. “This is an attack on our freedoms and values”.

People gathered outside The Admiral Duncan pub on Old Compton Street, which was itself the target of a homophobic nailbomb attack in 1999.

It is very important to show solidarity. we’re all part of the same community and it’s very important that we show love and solidarity.

The Huffington Post UK reported that the London, England, vigil became a voguing battle in Soho, a district regarded by many in London’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community as a safe space.
