Thousands Denounce Turkey Coup in Cyprus’ Breakaway North

But in August 2016, nearly a month after a coup failed to dislodge the Recep Tayyip Erdogan regime, it looks a new equation is ready to take shape between Turkish president and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

In remarks made during his visit to families of people martyred in eastern Erzurum province, Akdag said: “114 out of total injured are being treated in Ankara and Istanbul, while one other is getting treatment in Malatya and two others in hospitals in Sakarya province”.

Turkey’s demand for the immediate extradition of Fethullah Gulen is putting a strain on U.S. relations with Turkey, a crucial Middle East ally and indispensable regional partner in the fight against so-called Islamic State.

A Turkish cleric in Pennsylvania who the government alleges engineered an attempted coup last month may not face extradition, according to a report Friday by the Wall Street Journal. “I have a say in the matter on the [European] Council of Foreign Ministers, where it will be decided if a new chapter will be opened with Turkey”.

But the U.S. and European leaders were in fact very quick to condemn it and voice their support for the democratically elected Turkish government – despite its increasingly authoritarian tendencies.

“What the guys in the military explain to me is you don’t have to refuel (for missions out of Incirlik), pilots can loiter in the area, they can conduct what they call dynamic airstrikes, that’s when something comes to their attention”, Cook said.

Gulen has denied involvement or prior knowledge of the coup attempt.

In a briefing in Washington to journalists last month, Serdar Kilic, Turkey’s envoy to the United States, urged Americans to give Turkey the “benefit of the doubt” as it arrested, detained and suspended tens of thousands of suspected Gulenists from their jobs.

Russian Federation intends to gradually lift the special economic measures, introduced against Turkey earlier due to the downing of Russia’s Su-24 aircraft by Turkish air forces last November, Ushakov said. On Friday the governing AK Party ordered an internal purge of Gulen supporters. “We are lawyers and we deal with evidence and we deal with due process and – guess what? – in extradition proceedings, evidence matters and due process matters”, he said.

The abortive coup, in which rogue soldiers commandeered fighter jets, tanks and helicopters in their bid to seize power, killed more than 230 people and raised concern about Turkey’s ability to protect itself against the threat from Islamic State in neighbouring Syria and a Kurdish insurgency in its southeast.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Kerry is to arrive in Turkey on August 24, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

However, the rebelling servicemen started to surrender July 16 and Turkish authorities said the coup attempt failed.

The Turkish prime minister announced that people who have been arrested following the coup attempt reached 25,917 person, including around 13,000 who have been imprisoned.

The obvious target would be limiting US military operations out of Incirlik Air Base in Turkey.

Erdogan administration is continuously mounting pressure on allies to close all the Gullen led institutions mainly network of schools in the country. turkey considers cleric Fateh Ullah Gulen behind the botched coup.

Around that time, Erdogan’s chief spokesman, Ibrahim Kalin, issued a statement insisting that the government didn’t believe the United States was behind the coup attempt.
