Police and the FBI are investigating after authorities say someone made threats to Plainfield High School and Danville High School near Indianapolis, IN.
Earlier, Danville Police Chief William Wright told reporters at a news conference that two Danville Community High School students, a freshman and a senior, were arrested after midnight on Thursday “due to threats received through social media”.
The threat is similar to those that shut down the Los Angeles Unified School District Tuesday, according to a message to parents from Long Beach school officials.
Shafer said Danville Police would have additional officers at the high school today, but added that classes would go on as scheduled.
The district announced on its website that schools were opening Thursday after an emailed threat sent to several school district staff and teachers at Pinkston High School and Martinez Elementary School was deemed non-credible.
Plainfield Connecticut schools are working as usual Thursday morning after concerns were raised following a threat to a town with the same name hundreds of miles away.
A spokeswoman for Broward County Public Schools in South Florida said the district’s police department immediately communicated an emailed threat it received late Wednesday to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
The district sent a letter to parents saying principals and school staff had been asked to stay alert and keep students calm and focused on learning.
Meanwhile, an all-clear was given after East Orange Campus High School in New Jersey was evacuated on Thursday following a phoned-in bomb threat.
Officials say the emails are similar to ones received earlier in the week in Los Angeles and New York City. Officials say both students are facing preliminary charges of intimidation, and may face expulsion from school.
