“Two witnesses [saw] both aircraft collide midair”.

One of the planes was a training aircraft.
The incident occurred just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday off the runway of West Georgia Regional Airport.
A flight student in Stone’s plane has only been identified as a male.
Three people were killed Wednesday when two small airplanes collided over the Georgia countryside west of Atlanta while trying to land, authorities said.
Blue says a pilot who saw the crash from the air told authorities it appeared that both planes were attempting to land simultaneously “and one came on top of the other”. However, Blue says investigators have not confirmed those details. “At this point in time we can’t really confirm that”, he added.
The planes involved in the deadly collision at West Georgia Regional Airport were a Diamond Aircraft DA20C1 and a Beech F33A, according to a Federal Aviation Administration official.
It was not immediately clear if anyone survived the crash or what caused it. “They were intermixed so much it was hard to identify two planes at first”.

The FAA’s investigation is still on-going, however a pilot who was flying at the time says he observed the crash from above.
