4G Super-Voice already covers more than 50 per cent of the United Kingdom population, Three said, and has already rolled out in London, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Exeter.

Dubbed “4G Super-Voice”, the new technology brings 4G voice-calling to United Kingdom mobile users.

“By the end of the year, one million of our customers will have access to better indoor coverage and be able to use their phones in more places than ever before”, he added.

The enhancement is the latest initiative in our drive to improve indoor coverage which includes adding new sites to the network and launching our Wi-Fi calling application, Three InTouch, last year.

Three is the first network in the United Kingdom to enable VoLTE (voice over LTE), throwing the switch to make it possible to make calls and send messages over the 4G network. “You don’t hear the singing, which is the high frequency”. “This announcement is the latest step in our efforts to offer customers a quality experience on what is already the UK’s most reliable network”. Three will then push through a software update over the air, activating 4G Super Voice.

Hutchison 3G, the smallest mobile operator in the United Kingdom and provides services under the Three brand, has become the nation’s first mobile service provider to launch a commercial voice-over-LTE service. When the replace is prepared for a buyer’s handset an alert can be despatched, notifying them to replace their working system, by following the on-screen directions. The company has also begun rolling out VoLTE in Cardiff, Manchester and Liverpool, with a view to providing 65% population coverage by the end of the year.

Three has beat its rivals to the punch, but EE and Vodafone are unlikely to be far behind as both have previously confirmed that a launch this summer was on the cards. Three told us that the Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G4 and unspecified Xperia handsets will be the first to gain Super-Voice functionality at launch.

“Indoor coverage across the industry is always the hardest problem to solve, so all networks, whether it’s 2G, 3G or 4G will always have coverage blackspots.” said Bryn Jones, Chief Technology Officer at Three.
