Three guerrillas killed in south Kashmir gunfight

In a separate operation in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, which entered its 11th day today, the security forces killed one militant while efforts were on to flush out his accomplices, the official said. “They were active from quite a few time in the district”, said a police official adding that arms, ammunition and other war-like stores were recovered from the slain militants.
A senior police official said that the alert troops noticed suspicious movement on the Indian side of the LoC on Monday in Nowshera sector in Rajouri district.
The killing of these militants sparked a spontaneous shutdown in Bijbehara where large number of people took to streets and raised pro-freedom slogans.
Three local guerrillas, belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) group, were killed in another brief gunfight in Tantraypora area of Siligam village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday. The slain militants were identified as Adil Sheikh, Sartaj Lone and Tanveer Bhat, all residents of Bijbehara.
The strike call given by hardline Hurriyat Conference against the gunning down of three Hizbul Mujahideen militants, hit normal life in the valley on Tuesday, even as sporadic clashes broke out between the protesters and law enforcing agencies.
