The forces, official sources said, also lobbed shells towards a residential house where they believed the militants are hiding, but there was no retaliation from the other side.
A gunfight erupted in Dadsara village of Tral Wednesday evening after forces launched a search and cordon operation.
He said when the area was being sealed, militants hiding in a house opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons on search party.
Around midnight the Quick Action Team (QAT) of 110 Bn CRPF, led by Mr. Kishore Kumar, Commandant, in a daring operation successfully carried out building intervention and neutralised three militants without any collateral damages, it said.
Despite police advisory to people to remain away from gunfight sites, hundreds of local residents reportedly made an attempt to break the cordon and rescue militants during evening protests.
All the three militants trapped in the village have been killed in the encounter and police have recovered three rifles from their possession.
All the militants were local residents and belonged to the banned organisation Hizbul Mujahideen, army said.
