North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has denied ISIS’ claims it has assassinated a U.S military commander in Kabul.

“I was in the area when an explosion happened, then people crowded the area and I saw two people who were wounded by the blast”, said a witness, Shaad Marrai. “No soldier was not hurt in the attack”, Fraidoon Obaidi said as quoted by the TOLO news broadcaster.

However, a spokesman at the U.S. Department of Defense told MailOnline: ‘The claims are false’.

And although ISIS has claimed responsibility the Taliban have recently stepped up attacks across Afghanistan.

The targeted vehicle was parked on the roadside in Second Macroryan, where the Afghan Supreme Court and US embassy are located.

On Monday, Afghan authorities confirmed that Taliban have overrun the police headquarters in the Dahan-e-Ghori district in northern Baghlan Province. They added that the magnetic bomb was attached to a vehicle owned by the Afghan National Army (ANA).

There was no immediate word on casualties, but the militants claimed they had killed and captured “many” policemen.
