WAFA’s correspondent said Israeli police blocked all gates leading to the old city of Jerusalem, including: Bab al-Amoud gate, also known as Damascus Gate and Bab el-Khalil, also known as Jaffa Gate, following the alleged stabbing attacks. She said police shot both assailants, who were later identified as Palestinians in their early 20s from the West Bank. Two Israelis later died from their wounds, including one man who was apparently wounded by police as they shot at the attackers, the Associated Press reported.
Hospital officials said a third Israeli, with serious stab wounds, was in intensive care but out of danger after surgery. The second victim was shot by accident by Israeli security forces aiming at the attackers. Israeli cops officers allege one assailant was killed & a 2nd arrested (taken in to custody) following a stabbing attack in that injured three people outside Jerusalem’s Old City.
A campaign of stabbings, shootings and car-rammings by Palestinians has killed 19 Israelis and a U.S. citizen since October.
Israel says the violence is a result of Palestinian incitement. At least 116 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire, of which Israel says 79 were assailants. The couple’s four-year-old son was the sole survivor from the immediate family.
Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon has said Israel was determined to bring those responsible to trial, adding that he considered the arson “a Jewish terrorist act”. A police spokesman told a local media outlet the video is being investigated.
