Three keys and prediction: Notre Dame

Charlie Strong has not brought the kind of change that Texas football fans were hoping to see. Studstill challenged Sebastian and former Irish player Max Redfield (recently kicked off the team for a drug and weapon charge) throughout the spring, but he hadn’t outplayed Sebastian in camp to the point that Kelly wants to put a true freshman out on the field from the start tonight. Gone is the more traditional attack from Strong’s first season and the mashup spread look the Longhorns tried in year two. He has an 11-14 record as head coach of the Longhorns.

Kizer thinks he should start after leading the Irish to nine wins last season, including three come-from-behind victories in the fourth quarter.

Dozens of Notre Dame football fans began their Saturday praying. Texas got pretty lucky on that deal, because its kicker situation was a huge question mark this offseason.

If the Irish offensive line can perform on an elite level, it won’t matter who is taking the snaps, catching the passes or running the football.

“We’ll just call it and they’ll ball it”, Gilbert said.

The Irish collected 24 sacks last season. Texas features an up-tempo approach on offense.

Four of the six Notre Dame players arrested over the weekend of August 19 will suit up to play in the season opener against Texas on Sunday, as long as the university doesn’t step in.

“And for Texas, you feel this buzz this off-season as this is the point of the breakthrough and the true freshman quarterback, but yet Swoopes is still there and the big dominating tandem in the backfield”. The fact that Notre Dame is only favored by a field goal in a game which they won 38-0 last season is a bit ridiculous even for those who are vehemently opposed to multiple quarterbacks. Anything less will not sit easy, but that won’t be Strong’s determining factor.

Strong said it’s his role as a pioneer among black coaches that props him up, not wears him down.

“We’d both rather ourselves be the only guy playing”. It’s been a great matchup. “Our team’s going to know who the starting quarterback is”.

That’s Strong staying consistent. As for the actual game on the field, Texas will be fighting an uphill battle. The secondary the Longhorns have is better than the Notre Dame WR, and at LB… well, we have Malik and Anthony Wheeler. He’ll be expected to elevate the rest of the defense, which lacks major impact players elsewhere.

-Shane Buechele has shown the work ethic, passing ability and intangibles to convince many in Texas that he’s the future at QB.

The 6-foot-1, 245 pound former four-star recruit has the keys to the auto now, and there’s plenty of optimism the Crete-Monee High School alum will succeed as The Guy in Brian VanGorder’s defense. Where Texas is trying to decide between the unknown of Buechele and inconsistency of Swoopes, Notre Dame is in a very different position with DeShone Kizer and Malik Zaire.

Now it’s time for Strong and his players to prove things are different in 2016 – it may be his last chance. He enrolled in January, so he’s worked with the Horns QBs prior to preseason practice. Burt is Texas’ top target, a 6-foot-3 speedster who finished second in the Big 12 in the 110-meter hurdles.
