An apparent crossbow attack killed three people and injured another in the Toronto suburb of Scarborough on Thursday.

Three people suffering from what appeared to be wounds from a crossbow were pronounced dead Thursday in an incident that rocked an otherwise quiet east-end neighbourhood, Toronto police said.

The names of the victims have not released but an autopsy is scheduled. However local media outlets reported that Ryan pleaded guilty to eight counts of robbery and eight counts of disguise with intent.

Investigators said a suspicious package found later at a downtown condo building with a daycare centre was linked to the crossbow slayings, but they offered no further details.

Police, who immediately swarmed the area, were not looking for any suspects, Hopkinson said. A crossbow was found on the floor and was thought to be the weapon.

The injuries appeared to have been caused by a crossbow bolt, which was found near the victims. But neighbours say they believe the victims were the mother and brothers of the accused.

In 2008, Ryan was charged in relation to a string of bank robberies according to Toronto Police.

“He said, ‘Call 911, my brother is bleeding in the driveway, ‘” said the neighbour, who did not want to be named. “I don’t know why you would need that in the city, have it around the house”.

The crime occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m., EST.

Neither police nor paramedics could confirm whether the crossbow was used in the incident, but paramedics say two men and a woman have died. “My daughter was born last week and my son starts school next week so to have this right next door is pretty scary”, another neighbor said.
