Three-month state of emergency declared in Turkey after failed coup

Duran accused the Western media of not taking a clear stance against the coup attempt, saying that they want to limit Turkey’s will as well as hinder its efforts to cleanse Turkey of the coup-plotters.

More than 50,000 civil service employees, including police, judges and the military, have been fired since the coup, the AP reported.
The Turkish president blames USA -based cleric Fethullah Gulen as the instigator of the botched coup and he’s moved swiftly against Gulen supporters in his country’s institutions. The declaration will enable Turkey to “take the most efficient steps” in order to remove threats to “democracy, to the rule of law and to the freedoms of the citizens in our country”, he said.
The Turkish government on July 20 also banned all academics from foreign travel as part of wide-ranging restrictions put in place in Turkey.
The cache of almost 300,000 AK Party emails was obtained before the plot to overthrow the government and dates from 2010 to 6 July this year. Gulen vehemently denies the charge.
Turkey has requested Gulen’s extradition from the United States.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has said a U.S. court will need to be convinced by evidence of Mr. Gulen’s involvement.
