Three New Locally Transmitted Zika Virus Cases Reported in Florida
In this photo, an Aedes aegypti is shown by Bob Cummings, director of scientific services, at Orange County Vector Control District in Garden Grove. The mother had traveled while pregnant to her native El Salvador and returned to Harris County in her second trimester. The reason: better insect control as well as window screens and air conditioning that should help curtail any outbreaks. Now that Zika is here in America, what should I do to reduce my risk of getting it? If symptoms occur, they typically appear 2-7 days after being infected. Test results on Friday confirmed that the infant’s death was indeed linked to Zika.

While health officials did not require The Wynwood Yard to close, Heiman said the management made a decision to do so on August 2 based on concerns about Zika symptoms among its employees.
The DNA-based vaccine contains genetic pieces of the Zika virus. U.S. Sens. Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson both lobbied for Congress to pass the package, fearing Florida would be hit the hardest by the virus.
“We’re definitely doing what we can”, Rios said.
Kids returning to school in a Miami neighborhood linked to Zika infections will be allowed to wear trousers and long-sleeved shirts that don’t match their school uniforms, but still can’t bring mosquito repellant to campus. Health officials have advised citizens to avoid the Wynwood area.
Aedes mosquitoes feed primarily on human blood, and tend to breed in small pools of water found in local neighborhoods.
The information comes from an internal report shared with health officials that describes each case of non-travel related Zika. Pregnant residents were urged to take extra steps to avoid mosquito bites.

But the pregnant woman, along with two other men, did not have clear ties to the Wynwood neighborhood, and officials do not know where they were bitten by a mosquito carrying Zika virus. “Mosquito surveillance is part of our routine; however it is also part of an integrated pest management strategy to identify whether there are Zika virus transmitting mosquitoes on Department of Defense installations”.
