North Korean state-run media praised presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump as a “wise politician” and the right choice for Americans in November, according to Reuters.

“It may have been timed to coincide with Ri’s visit as a way of reminding the Chinese that North Korea can and will elevate tensions in the absence of others’ willingness to provide assistance”, Mr Revere said. South Korea has denied the accusation and said the workers chose to resettle on their own.

Separately, the worldwide department of China’s Communist Party said diplomat Ri Su Yong, one of North Korea’s highest-profile officials, visited China on Tuesday, meeting the department’s head, Song Tao. “We hope relevant parties maintain calm and restraint, strengthen communication and dialogue, and safeguard regional peace and stability”, Xi said.

Ri’s arrival in Beijing on Tuesday morning came hours after North Korea’s apparent failed attempt to conduct a missile launch.

While the May party congress was North Korea’s biggest political event in decades, experts on North Korean politics said there was less top-level personnel reshuffling at the event than expected, underscoring the stability of Kim’s powerbase.

In April the North failed three times to test-fire a Musudan, which has an estimated range of anywhere between 2,500 and 4,000 kilometres (1,550 to 2,500 miles).

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency quoted official sources as saying Tuesday’s missile may have exploded on its mobile launcher.

The editorial also welcomed Trump’s proposal to hold direct talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, suggesting he could help implement the regime’s “Yankee go home” policy.

“North Korea’s repeated ballistic missile launches are serious, provocative acts against the worldwide community, including Japan”, Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida told a regular press briefing. South Korea’s Foreign Ministry warned Tuesday that North Korea will face stronger sanctions if it doesn’t stop provocations.

Congress must immediately fully fund GMD, including the additional interceptors at current defense installations, updating the “kill-vehicle”, deploying the newest radar systems in order to better track incoming missiles, and focus on building an East Coast site.
