Israeli troops killed two Palestinians and severely wounded another on Thursday after the three allegedly tried to stab soldiers in the West Bank, the Israeli army said.

An Arab League meeting in Egyptian capital Cairo will next week discuss a Palestinian bid for a place on the UN Security Council (UNSC), a senior official said on Wednesday. The Authority, which was set up as part of the 1993 Oslo Accords between the Palestinians and Israel and was meant to be a temporary entity pending full statehood, is operating under severe fiscal distress and recently has been plagued by rumors of Abbas’s failing health – something denied by leadership.

Three Palestinians attacked a group of soldiers with knives, the army said in a statement, and the “forces thwarted (the) attack and shot (the) assailants”.

The two others are also alleged to have also pulled out knives and attempted to attack the soldiers before they were also shot.

Israeli forces or armed civilians have killed at least 133 Palestinians.

Israeli forces have reportedly demolished a number of Palestinian homes and detained more than a dozen in occupied Palestinian territories over the past few days. Palestinians say it stems from frustration at decades of occupation.

With the latest incident, the Palestinian death toll since the beginning of the latest unrest late previous year increased to 148.
