Authorities in Louisiana have defended their response to protesters, saying that their gear – which evoked the chaos that unfolded on the streets of Ferguson, Mo., after a white officer shot a black teenager there in 2014 – was needed to protect police officers.
“We have been questioned repeatedly over the last several days about our show of force and why we have the tactics that we have”, Dabadie said. “Well, this is the reason”.
State Police Superintendent Mike Edmonson said information regarding the plot revealed “an actual, credible threat” against police.
He said he misses his father “a lot”, after he was killed on July 5 in a deadly confrontation with Baton Rouge police.
The deaths spurred protests around the country.
“I witnessed firsthand as peaceful protestors were violently attacked and arrested, assault weapons pointed at them with fingers on the triggers, some dragged across the cement, their clothes ripped off of them”, said Alison McCrary, president of the Louisiana Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild and a Catholic nun. “Both contract provisions encourage aggressive conduct by police officers by minimizing consequences”.
“People need to know we were brutalized. One police officer said, ‘Really give it to her, ‘ as they trampled me”, she said.
Sterling’s death – which was captured on video and quickly went viral – sparked widespread protests.
Police also arrested demonstrators who had been invited to gather on private property after ordering them to leave, the complaint stated.
Imani emphasized that numerous officers she encountered were professional. “I had to run”, she said.
ABC News could not immediately reach the Baton Rouge Police Department for comment. Over a three-day period, police arrested about 200 people.
The lawsuit describes the protests as peaceful and blames law enforcement for escalating the situation.
He said he believes that the idea of change is becoming mainstream.
“Our officers have been working around the clock to get these firearms off the streets of Baton Rouge”, he said.

The teen son of Alton Sterling, who was killed by two Louisiana cops, spoke out for the first time Wednesday – calling his dad a good man and asking people not to protest with violence. So I think the threat speaks for itself.
