Shortly after the attack, MINUSMA (Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali), the United Nations force working to stabilise Mali, said the attack had caused an unspecified number of casualties.
A further 20 people were injured – four seriously – in the armed dawn assault which took place in the northern town of Kidal.
The remains of people that were slain by gunmen during the recent attacks on the Radisson Blu hotel are laid out during a funeral in Bamako, Mali.
Guinea’s Ministry of Defense said two of its soldiers were killed.
It is in northern Mali, which was occupied by Islamist fighters including groups linked to al-Qaeda in 2012. They were driven out by a French-led military operation a year later, but violence has continued and spread into formerly safe areas in the south.

Security analysts say the groups could be collaborating. However, responsibility for the attack was also claimed by other militant groups.
