A senior police official in the city gave a lower death toll, saying one person had been killed and at least five injured, but said rescue work was still ongoing. Five fire tenders have reached the spot and are trying to pull out the people who have been trapped inside. The injured persons have been sent JJ and Nair hospitals. Meanwhile, rescue operations are still on.
“Two of them were brought in dead and the other three are critical with severe head and fracture injuries”.
A fire official said, “We stopped the rescue operation after we confirmed that no one was trapped inside the debris”.
According to the Disaster Management Cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the collapse occurred at 2.08 pm when the Pathar building collapsed like a pack of cards, trapping several people in the debris.
