Pope County Sheriff Shanes Jones said the plane crashed about 70 miles northwest of Little Rock Thursday morning minutes after take-off.

According to the FAA, the single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza crashed around 8 am (central) Thursday, shortly after takeoff from the Russellville Regional Airport. There were no injuries on the ground, but it’s not clear how many people were on the plane, emergency management said. Spokesman Lynn Lunsford says the plane was headed to Knoxville, Tennessee.

“Local authorities have sealed the crash area and teams from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are en route”, said Bill Sadler, press officer of the Arkansas State Police. “The FAA will release the tail number of the aircraft as soon as we are able to confirm it”.

“So they would not have been talking to air traffic controllers”, Lunsford said. Pope County Sheriff Shane Jones says the victims were all deceased when emergency personnel got to the scene.
