Three People Killed in Jerusalem and West Bank Attacks

One saw a Palestinian shoot and seriously wound two Israeli police officers in Jerusalem before being shot dead.

An American tourist, Vanderbilt graduate student Taylor Force, 29, a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, was killed in the attack, which wounded about a dozen others, including Force’s wife. In November, US citizen Ezra Schwartz, 18, was killed by a Palestinian terrorist who shot at cars that were stuck in traffic at the Gush Etzion junction in the West Bank.

While the man’s head did appear to move slightly in the video before the final gunshot, and then not after it, in the absence of an autopsy, it is hard to say if the suspect died from that shot, or the earlier barrage.

“There can be no justification for this hateful violence, and the United States stands firmly behind Israel’s right to defend itself as we are defending ourselves at this moment as well”, Biden said.

Biden is on a two-day tour to meet with Israeli and Palestinian authorities, and despite diplomatic tensions between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the White House, Biden reportedly was planning to discuss the finalization of a new 10-year defense package.

Along with the Jaffa assailant, three other Palestinians in Tuesday’s assaults killed by Israeli forces.

It was the latest episode in a fraught relationship between the right-wing Israeli leader and Democratic U.S. president that has yet to recover from deep differences over last year’s U.S.-led worldwide nuclear deal with Israel’s foe Iran.

He dispelled rumors that his trip was meant to reinvigorate the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations.

Netanyahu has publicly hailed Biden’s visit as an expression of “the strong relations” between Israel the United States.
