Three police officers shot dead in Baton Rouge
A suspect was shot dead and was later confirmed to be the lone gunman who attacked the policemen after they allegedly acted upon a 911 call, according to the local police.

He said a fourth police officer in Baton Rouge remains critical and that the killer’s motive was still unknown.
Just days after police officers in Dallas were laid to rest, officers in Baton Rouge were under fire.
The gunman, later identified as Gavin Long, 29, died at the scene, officials said, and Louisiana State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson said Sunday afternoon there was no longer an active shooter scenario but the investigation was ongoing.
Thousands of people have protested Sterling’s death and Baton Rouge police arrested more than 200 demonstrators.
The Dallas killings followed the on-camera killings of black men Alton Sterling and Philando Castile by white police officers. Police said the gunman was killed at the scene.
President Barack Obama on Sunday condemned the killings and all attacks on law enforcement.
“This is an unspeakable and unjustified attack on all of us at a time when we need unity and healing”, Edwards said Sunday in the hours after the Baton Rouge shooting.
He served in the Marines for five years, from August 2005 to August 2010, and rose to the rank of sergeant, according to Ms Yvonne Carlock, deputy public affairs officer for the US Marines.
The shooter, based in Kansas City – more than 700 miles (1,100 kilometers) north of Baton Rouge – was a former Marine whose served a 2008-2009 tour of duty in Iraq tour.
In documents seeking the name change, Long also referred to himself as a member of a black separatist group known as the Washitaw Nation. Authorities were trying to ensure that there was no one in the house.
Two “persons of interest” were detained for questioning in the nearby town of Addis but were later released without charge.
Mr Cain said authorities planned to continue investigating whether the gunman had any assistance “indirectly, directly here or at home”.
In the wake of Sterling’s death, there were calls to “purge” cops in Baton Rouge.
“I’m affiliated with the spirit of justice, nothing more nothing less”. Beyond the Black Lives Matter movement, there remains palpable tension between communities of color and police.
The University of Alabama issued a statement saying Long attended classes for one semester in the spring of 2012.
In Kansas City, police converged on a small turquoise frame house listed under Long’s name. “The university police had no interaction with him while he was a student”, she said in an email. “In uniform, I get nasty hateful looks and out of uniform, some consider me a threat”.
A government source said federal officials were reviewing the web postings but could not definitively link them to Long.
Montrell Jackson, 32, posted an emotional message about policing shortly before an assassin killed him and two other police officers.
