Three university students found dead with knife
When police arrived at a house located not far from the SUNY Geneseo campus, they found the bodies of 21-year-old Kelsey Annese and 24-year-old Matthew Hutchinson, as well as that of Kingston. “We don’t know the exact intentions of Mr. Kingston in purchasing that knife, but certainly it seems that shortly thereafter – being obviously distraught [by] the recent break-up, and his mental status or well-being was certainly affected by that recent break-up – he either was intending to bring harm to himself or to somebody else, in this case, Ms. Annese”.

Police say a college student from North Vancouver and a female student were the apparent victims of a murder-suicide in NY state. They say he then turned a knife, which he had recently purchased, on himself after a call to his his father saying that he had hurt Annese.
They were found in a home close to the SUNY Geneseo campus, around 35 miles south of Rochester, at 6am yesterday. He was a former basketball player, who had dated Kelsey Annese, 21, a senior on the women’s baseketball team. Annese and Kingston had recently broken up after a three-year relationship.
A 911 audio tape available on Facebook shed more light on the call from the younger Kingston to his father.
At the time of the double murders, cops told of two other people being in the home.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the Geneseo Police Department, the New York State Police, the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office and SUNY University Police Department have all been part of the investigation.
“We believe the perpetrator is one of the deceased”, Geneseo Police spokesman Jeffrey Szczesniak told the Buffalo News, after noting it was too early to formally declare the case closed.
“It is a profoundly sad day for the college and village of Geneseo”, college president Denise Battles said, in a shaky voice nearing tears.
Police said that this is believed to be an isolated incident, and that there is no risk to the town.
Hutchinson took up hockey at age 9 and played defense for the Geneseo Knights, according to his athlete bio.
Hutchinson was also a member of the Geneseo Volunteer Fire Department, where he was remembered fondly on Monday.
Annese graduated from Webster Schroeder High School in 2012 and was studying special education, Spanish and psychology at the time of her death. It’s unclear why Hutchinson was at the house, which was rented by members of the women’s basketball team.
There will be a remembrance service Wednesday evening at SUNY Geneseo. He had previously attended the school but was not registered for the spring semester, university officials have said.
