Three Videos of Black Chicago Teenager’s Police Shooting Death Released
The reports showed LeGrier was shot six times, including once in the chest and twice in the back.

“Mr. Chatman is running away from the police”.
The second officer, identified as Fry in the lawsuit, ran diagonally to try to cut off Chatman’s path, police said. The whole event takes about 10 seconds.
Cedrick Chatman (Courtesy of the Chatman family) “With respect to the release of videos of police incidents, the City of Chicago is working to find the right balance between the public’s interest in disclosure and the importance of protecting the integrity of investigations and the judicial process”, Patton said in the release.
The controversy over the Chatman case has been linked to the police shooting of Laquan Mcdonald, also caught on video, another African-American teen shot by a white police officer.
For weeks protesters have been demanding Mr. Emanuel step down over his handling of the video and the city’s delay in releasing it. He later filed a federal lawsuit against IPRA alleging he was sacked for his findings on several cases-including Chatman’s-in which he found that officers had unjustifiably used lethal force.
The city’s lawyers said they would distribute the video later on Thursday.
In a court hearing on Thursday, US District Judge Robert Gettleman lifted a protective order on the videos and allowed their public release.
“I’m very disturbed about the way this has happened”, Gettleman said. The officer who shot him said he did.
A city Law Department spokesman didn’t immediately respond to an email Thursday asking when the video would be released. Alvarezs re-election campaign could face a setback Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, when local Democratic leaders meet to decide whether to endorse a candidate in the race amid the city’s ongoing police shooting scandal.
After the shooting, Pat Camden, a spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police, told reporters that the officers had reason to believe Chatman was armed because of the carjacking call. However, no new criminal investigations have been filed against the officers and both officers remain on full-time duty.
Chatman’s mother is suing the city and the officers.
“They are still not being transparent and we are still not hearing details of how they are going to change”, said Coffman.
But, the judge added, “the video is not as clear” in showing “exactly what Chatman’s position was or what he had in his hand” when he was shot.
Toth’s partner, Officer Kevin Fry, can be seen trailing farther back, aiming his gun at Chatman from a crosswalk and firing as the teen began rounding the corner in front of a bodega. Fry pursued from the middle of the street, his Sig Sauer.45-caliber handgun drawn. “As Chatman ran, Fry told the court, he “…approaches the corner, he makes a slight turn, a subtle turn to the right with his upper body.
Investigators said later the object was an iPhone box.
“There was so many of them”, the victim, 28, said on the recording.
“I felt his threat was as such that I didn’t have time to say anything”.
“Cedrick was just running as the shots were fired”, Davis said.
Toth said he moved in to handcuff the suspect while he was on the ground.
Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez has dismissed the local Democratic leadership’s endorsement of one of her political rivals, saying it isn’t a setback for her re-election bid. Coffman and Smolens say the newly released footage negates Fry’s claim.
Fry and Toth were never charged with murder and were cleared of any wrongdoing by Chicago’s Independent Police Review Authority. A investigator ruled that the shooting was justified.
