Three ways Pep Guardiola has failed at Bayern Munich

Though Bayern never reached a Champions League final under his watch, they reached the semifinals three times, ironically falling to a Spanish side each time – Real Madrid, Barcelona and, now, Atletico Madrid.

In the aftermath of Bayern’s Champions League exit, the question whether Guardiola’s failure to win Europe’s biggest club competition overshadowed his influence on Munich and German football in general was widely discussed in the national and global media.

Guardiola is in his final season with Bayern after agreeing to become Manchester City manager next season and as his reign draws to a close, he has accused someone of leaking information to the media.

Bayern and coach Pep Guardiola will rue Thomas Mueller’s saved first-half penalty just after Xabi Alonso had given the hosts the lead by crashing home a first-half free-kick.

The Spanish side, which also lost the 1974 European Cup final to Bayern, advanced to the showpiece match on the away goals rule after losing 1-2 on Tuesday for a 2-2 aggregate result.

Griezmann wasn’t part of the Atletico side that lost out 4-1 after extra time to Real in the final two years ago. Of course not. All he did was win outside of the Champions League. We played as we wanted to play but we came up one goal short. “We go through to the final very happy”.

Antoine Griezmann celebrates scoring the first goal for Atletico Madrid with Koke in the Champions League semi-final game against Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena, Munich May 3, 2016.

“Atletico did exactly what they have been doing all year in their league and took advantage of their chances”.

Bale saw his cross glance off Fernando to deceive Joe Hart and score the only goal over two legs.

“I feel like I’m maturing. It’s unbelievable what we have achieved”, said Simeone.

While Griezmann and Co. will face rivals Real Madrid in the decider on May 28, Atletico have been questioned, but the France worldwide said that was of no concern. The team did well, we controlled the game and had more opportunities.

“It’s going to be a very hard game again, we know that, but it’s one we’re looking forward to”.

“We’ve beaten the champions of Holland, Spain and now Germany (PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and Bayern) to get the final”. You always suffer in a semi-final but reaching the final is the most important thing for us.

While having enjoyed a positive few months in his first senior coaching role, Zidane also tasted much success during his playing career.
