This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t aim high though and work hard to get to where you want to be. It is possible to get exactly where you want to be in your career, you just have to know how. Here are five tips to make sure you have the best chance at nailing your dream job-

Work Your Way Up

In the working world nothing comes easy and it’s rare someone gives you an opportunity starting from the top without having to graft for it first. When it comes to your career you have to be willing to start at the bottom and work your way up to your dream role, even if you think you are over qualified to start so far down. Often people who take on assistant roles etc are over qualified, but that’s why they’ve been chosen to become part of the company, because they have the potential to go far.

In order to impress you have to show willingness to work hard and to earn your dream role. Accepting you may not be able to step straight into your dream job is half the battle. Accept this and you’ll more willingly feel comfortable with the idea of starting at the bottom and working your way up, after all it’s a start and a step in the right direction.

Self Belief

If you don’t believe that you are the perfect person for the role you are applying for it will be impossible to convince someone else that you are. No matter what job you are going for being sure of yourself and your skills and having confidence is key to performing well in an interview.

Prior to your interview ensure you know the role like the back of your hand. Write a list of responsibilities and key skills needed for the role. Using this then write how you will meet these skills, how you could carry out the responsibilities and the role better than anyone else. This needs to be truthful as you have to believe it yourself. Before your interview read over these notes as much as possible to ensure you walk into it believing you are perfect for the role and feeling full of confidence.

If you are finding confidence isn’t coming naturally consider using methods such as NLP training which is used to learn how to take complete control of your brain making it easier to get what you want.

Prove Yourself

Confidence is essential yes and being sure of yourself and your skills goes a long way, but you have to be able to prove these skills too. Whatever industry you are looking to get into there is a way of showing what you can do. If you can work on your skills in a way that you can show someone in your spare time. For example if you want to work for a magazine start a blog, if you want to work in social media marketing set up pages and show what you can do. With everything there is something you can create to prove your skills. Aim to impress!
