On Christmas 2010, five inches of snow was on the ground Christmas morning.
A white Christmas is “loosely defined” as having 1 inch of snow on the ground on Christmas Day, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says.
Highs this week were anticipated to reach a high of near 70 degrees through the middle of the week, including on Christmas Day (Friday), while night-time lows were expected to be in the 30s.
Scott said that southern Ontario straight through to Atlantic Canada will be snow-free, and some areas can even expect rain on Christmas Eve.
Wolfe said climate change may be partly to blame for this year’s warm December, though it’s hard to blame one weather instance on global warming.
But, he said, there shouldn’t be any “big-ticket storms” on Christmas Day.
“Let’s face it, we are the second coldest country in the world, and the snowiest”, Phillips said. “We just happen to be in the regime with warmer temperatures”.
Confidence is increasing that we could see a wintry mix for our Chiefs Sunday that may last into the early part of next week.
Courtnee McPherson, who said she’s visiting her parents in MI, said she’s disappointed there won’t be any snow on the ground.

“It has absolutely robbed any chance of us having a white Christmas in the East, and across many parts of the North America”, he said. As rain moves in, flooding will become a concern, he said. NOAA’s six-10 day outlook shows temperatures are expected to be above average for Minnesota and the eastern half of the United States through the holiday weekend, which could put this year in the running for one of the warmest Christmases on record.
