Thunder’s Enes Kanter gets death threats following failed coup in Turkey
Following the failed political coup by a sub-sect of the Turkish military this week, Oklahoma City Thunder center Enes Kanter posted on Twitter that he’s been receiving death threats.

The 24-year-old posted screenshots of the threats, which are written in Turkish.
Kanter has always been an opponent of the Turkish government.
Kanter has often been blunt and apparent with his opinions on a wide range of suspects, including former teammates, religion and politics. “Prayer does not stand still”.
In March, following a terrorist attack in Ankara, Kanter spoke out against Erdogan’s government. Kanter criticized the decision to deny access to social media and to limit television coverage.
Kanter was left off Turkish national team in 2015 and cited his support of Gulen as the reason for not being chosen. Turkish officials, though, insisted at the time that there was nothing political about the team roster.

The coach stated otherwise, but it is clear Kanter may not ever be able to return to his home country after the failed coup attempt. It’s one of the biggest problems in this social media age.
