Thunder Win Off of Durant’s Game Winner
There was a time when Kevin Durant was limited. They played with more vitality and togetherness before Kevin Durant made a pull-up jumper and blocked Chris Paul’s shot in the final second to help the Oklahoma City Thunder emerge with a 100-99 victory Monday night at Staples Center.

Serge Ibaka contributed 17 points and eight rebounds for Oklahoma City (19-9).
Again, this game did not teach us anything new – the biggest takeaway was the scintillating insight that these teams employ several very good players. But as a kid, I wanted to hit the game-winner all the time. “We were just moving the basketball, playing the right way”, Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook told reporters. Coming off a 104-100 loss at Cleveland that snapped their six-game winning streak, the Thunder won for the 11th time in 14 games.
It’s hard to fathom how a talented, experienced team like the Los Angeles Clippers keeps finding ways to lose games against their alleged title rivals time after time despite holding a fourth quarter lead, as the Oklahoma City Thunder join the list of teams which includes the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets that enjoyed a good, old fashioned Clippers choke job.
However, Durant’s late-game heroics wiped the Thunder’s miscue slate clean. & Durant is greater than only a deadly offensive player.
“I think that was a prime example of being a star in your role and not trying to reach outside of that”, Clippers forward Blake Griffin said. “Since my first year, I never was a liability on that end”. “I try not to think about it. When I get the ball, I just try to be me”.
The Clippers have played with, but haven’t beaten, the top teams in the West. This was the second of two home games for the Clippers during a 14-game stretch – although they will face the Lakers on Friday as the designated road team. We have had different lineups every night and different guys in and out, but that is part of fielding a great team.
Paul led the Clippers to a 29-23 lead through one quarter with 16 points and four assists.
Westbrook’s three-pointer lifted Oklahoma City to a 96-95 lead, but Griffin’s dunk put Los Angeles back up 97-96 with 37.8 seconds.
“We missed like three layups that would have put us ahead by two, and I missed a wide-open 3”.
“If we play this way the rest of the year, we’re going to win a lot of games”, Aldrich said.

“We believe in each other”, Durant said. Both sides nailed big shots, but committed equally huge turnovers.
