Tidal Family Plan Launched

After critics berated Tidal for its a star-studden relaunch that asked fans to cough up more cash to its millionaire owners, Jay Z’s streaming music service unveiled a family discount Wednesday that could save you some dough – though Apple Music remains the better deal for the whole household.

For the base “Premium” level that means an extra £5 / $5 for each additional account and for the “HiFi” tier, with its CD quality audio, that’s an extra £10 / $10. Tidal’s family plan allows each account to connect up to three devices to the service.

For each new person that’s tied to the primary account only half of the subscription cost has to be paid.

Facebook is planning to launch a music-streaming service that will directly compete with Spotify and Apple Music, anonymous sources tell Music Ally’s Eamonn Forde.

Both Rdio and Spotify offer the same prices for their family plans. The celebrity-backed service will have two different kinds of family plans, Premium and Hi-Fi, much like the single-user plans.

News that Tidal has rolled out a family plan doesn’t set the music streaming apart, but rather keeps it on the same playing field as the other big platforms. Fill out all five accounts with CD quality music and you’re looking at quite a Tidal bill at the end of the month… And Facebook will match YouTube’s royalty rates at launch time.
