Television personality and conservationist Steve Irwin died in 2006 when a stingray barb punctured his chest while he was filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef in far north Queensland.
The man was attacked by a tiger at the Sunshine Coast’s Australia Zoo, for wounds to his forehead and wrist and scratches to his body.
He was treated at the scene and later taken to the hospital.
Queensland Ambulance Service has confirmed it took the man aged in his 40s to Nambour Hospital.
He also suffered scratches in the attack, which happened shortly before 11am (AEST) on Thursday.
Zoo owner Terri Irwin tweeted about 11.40am that a “hot and bothered” tiger had scratched a keeper.
It is not the first time a big cat has attacked ahandlerat the zoo. Ten tigers are now at the zoo, according to Australia Zoo’s website.

An Australia Zoo spokesperson described the incident as a “playful swipe” from Ranu, the 12-year-old tiger, during a routine morning walk, which wasn’t in view of Australia Zoo customers.
