“After playing his first 17 holes bogey-free, and 28 straight without a blemish, Woods squared bogey at the last, three-putting from 40’1″. He finished at 2-under 68 for the day. Jonas Blixt and Scott Brown were also at 13 under.

Hoge, who shot a 3-under 67 on Friday, is an in-state product because he was born in Statesville, but most of his roots are in North Dakota and he’s a relative unknown on the PGA Tour. When requested if he would acknowledge Hoge, Woods responded: “No, I would not”. Brown scored 66, and he’ll play with Woods. He wore a look of utter determination and grim intensity throughout his round, which, considering what’s at stake, is reasonable.

The former world number one could move up sufficiently with a second-place finish and he began his third round in style with a birdie from inside 10 feet at the opening hole. Woods has not held an end-of-round lead since he won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio in August 2013. “I wasn’t quite as sharp as yesterday. Anybody can make a run and shoot the score Jason and Jonas (Blixt) did”.

“I’ve shot 59 and I left a couple shots out there”, Woods said.

And he duly returned to the course to vault into a share of the lead with Tom Hoge after mixing an eagle and five birdies with two bogeys to reach 11 under. But he enjoyed his round with Tiger.

Gore says he’s known Woods “since we’ve been 12 years old” as kids in California. “It was fun to be there with Tiger, a guy I looked up to growing up”.

“I used to be making an attempt to shoot 7 beneath in my thoughts, get again within the combine, and to shoot 9 (beneath) was undoubtedly one thing I wasn’t anticipating on the vary this morning, however nice to get it”, Snedeker stated. Playing the back nine first, she birdied the first two holes and eagled the par-5 13th. “I hate it out there”.

On whether he thought he game was back: “You are never there, or back”. I knew I was playing something similar to this at the Quicken Loans (three weeks ago). His only other 54-hole lead, and his only prior PGA Tour win, came at the now-defunct 84 Lumber Classic in 2005.

Told that Hoge was the co-leader, he admitted he knew nothing about his fellow competitor, nor numerous other young players on the tour. I took a rip at them.
