Tiger Woods pulls out of Safeway Open and Turkish Airlines Open

Woods shocked the golfing world by pulling out of his comeback tournament in California this week, saying his game was not good enough to compete with the world’s best. Yesterday however, Tiger said that while he is feeling good about the state of his health the same can not be said for his golf game.

“It certainly added, for me, the value of going to Turkey this year and playing”.

Woods, who hasn’t played since a T10 finish at the Wyndham Championship 14 months ago, caused a stir when he announced last month he “hoped” to return to top flight golf this week.

Woods, who has not won a US PGA event for three years, plans to turn up at his foundation’s Hero World Challenge in Albany, Bahamas, in December. “I’m close, and I won’t stop until I get there”.

Woods has not played a professional tournament in over a year as a result of multiple back surgeries. Despite not having played much in the previous year or so, he still moves the needle in golf.

Wood was also scheduled to play in Turkish Open from November 3-6.

United States golf legend Johnny Miller, tournament host at the Safeway Open, said: “There is so much pressure when you can’t deliver like you used to”. “Obviously I have more responsibility this week than I would have in a usual event, but it’s a very manageable amount”.

Tiger Woods has blamed form issues rather than physical ailments for putting his return to competitive golf on hold. “Everybody was so excited in the golf world, and here in Northern California”.

For now, Miller just wants Woods to do not forget to have fun with the game again. I think sometimes you want to dive in a little bit and get stuck in.

Chris Wood admits it is humbling to have the chance of joining three of the biggest names in European golf in completing a prestigious double this week. “I hope that he picks the right spot”.

Woods lives and trains in Florida, and his longtime friend Notah Begay III said Hurricane Matthew did not help his recovery effort.

“It’s not body-related”, Begay told Golf Channel.

Sorry, Jesper, but I don’t think we are going to see anything “spectacular” ever again from Woods and, though ill-timed, this decision has spared all his fans from the prospect of having to watch any comeback – for the time being, anyway – hiding behind the sofa.
