Ausmus was visibly upset by the call, and after being ejected, Ausmus took off his hoodie and placed it on home plate.

The Tigers are scuffling at 16-21, and Ausmus had to address his job security before Monday’s game at Comerica Park against the Minnesota Twins.

Lamont, the team’s bench coach, managed the rest of Monday’s game after Ausmus’ ejection, but taking over from the start Tuesday was a different scenario. “I’m going out there because I’m upset”. Detroit won 10-8. Being angry, you don’t always think clearly, and it would have been easy just to go for the sweatshirt rip then have it get stuck on the hat and end up looking foolish.

Matt Shoemaker (2-5) allowed three runs and six hits in five innings, struck out five and walked two.

Rays 13, Blue Jays 2 – Curt Casali hit a three-run homer, Tim Beckham and Steve Pearce each hit two-run blasts, and visiting Tampa Bay had four homers while routing Toronto.

“Our bullpen was used up, so I was trying to get as many innings out of Dean as I could”, Twins manager Paul Molitor said. Joe Mauer and Miguel Sano both hit solo shots for Minnesota. Tigers starter Mike Pelfrey gave up a pair of solo homers and seven hits overall through 5.1 innings with three relievers putting up zeros. “We’ve got to pick him up”.

Berrios made four starts at the big-league level and racked up an ERA of 10.20.

The Twins tied it in the top of the seventh when J.D. Martinez dropped a routine fly ball in right, but Nick Castellanos saved more embarrassment for the Tigers, though, hitting a tie-breaking homer in the seventh. Trevor Plouffe added another run for the Twins when he stole third and scored on catcher Saltalamacchia’s throwing error in the fourth. Hughes threw only 75 pitches before being lifted. “I knew something happened, and I figured it had something to do with (Monday)”.
