Tigers finally beat Indians, teams warned after Kinsler hit
J.D. Martinez and Justin Upton homered as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Indians for only the second time in 15 games this season, topping the AL Central leaders 9-5 Sunday.

The teams begin a four-game series in Detroit next week with Bauer as one of Cleveland’s scheduled starters.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said he didn’t think Bauer was trying to hit anyone on goal, but didn’t like the results. “I don’t believe it was intentional, but this is the big leagues”.
Kinsler grabbed the side of his head after being hit, was examined and went to first. Kinsler remained in the game until being ejected two innings later, and after the game Ausmus said Kinsler was being checked after showing symptoms of a concussion.
At the end of the inning, Kinsler and Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera were yelling back and forth about who was responsible for covering second base.
He hit Miguel Cabrera in the left hand in the first inning.
“Want to extend my apologies to the @tigers I hit today”.
“Regardless of game situation, I would never intentionally throw at someone’s head”, Bauer said.
Cleveland, which opened an eight-game lead over second-place Detroit, said Carrasco sustained a non-displaced fracture of his pitching hand. “I think Jordan saw something that wasn’t really happening”. “But it wasn’t intentional”.
Kinsler got his helmet knocked off by a pitch from Bauer in the third inning.
“I thought Jordan handled it the right way”, said Ausmus.
Indians manager Terry Francona and a team trainer immediately went to the mound after Carrasco was hit. “There was no intent to hit anyone, but I understand why they were aggravated”.
Now, obviously people get sensitive about this type of thing, but it’s pretty evident Bauer wasn’t doing this on objective.
Norris (3-2) pitched five innings and gave up four runs (two earned) on five hits to get the win. Francisco Rodriguez pitched the last 1 1/3 innings to pick up his 43rd save.
It was an important win for the Tigers, who probably won’t catch Cleveland in the AL Central Division race, but are still very much alive in the wildcard race.
But Ausmus said he reviewed video after the game to determine what occurred. If we do, we’ll be in great shape.
Bauer had a rough afternoon in Sunday’s 9-5 loss to the Detroit Tigers.
The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on RBI singles by Brandon Guyer and Abraham Almonte. Martinez rolled on the ground in pain for a couple minutes, but eventually jogged down the first base line and remained in the game.
Uptons two-run shot in the fifth gave Detroit a 5-2 lead.
The Tigers had a one-run lead in the ninth before J.D. Martinez added a three-run home run. James McCann scored from third on a wild pitch with two outs to give the Tigers a 6-4 lead.
Bauer struck out the next two hitters but couldn’t escape the inning with the lead intact.
Trailing 6-4 in the sixth, Carlos Santana launched a solo home run off Alex Wilson, his 32nd of the season, but that was all the Indians’ offense could muster from there.

Cabrera, a two-time American League most valuable player, became the 100th player to reach the milestone. Mayben was safe at first on the play. RHP Cody Anderson will be pressed into service as the Indians’ No. 5 starter in the Indians’ injury-riddled rotation.
