Tigers heading to College Playoffs National Championship
The Oklahoma Sooners were fooled by a fake punt and stuffed on fourth down when they tried some trickery of their own. “Nobody believes in this team except these guys, and they just got a great heart, and it showed tonight”. They were embarrassed 40-6 by the Tigers a year ago in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

In the second quarter, Riley only dialed up five rushing plays, and didn’t even feel confident going to the run in a situation that seemed tailor-made for it.
The Tigers didn’t just beat the Sooners.
Clemson got on the board in the first quarter on kicker Greg Huegel’s 26-yard field goal. The Sooners were the first to score, though, with a touchdown by Samaje Perine in the beginning of the first. No. 2 running back Joe Mixon appeared to be knocked unconscious and never returned.
“Well, I just felt we weren’t tackling very well, and that was the biggest factor”, head coach Bob Stoops said. But in the matchup against No. 1 Clemson, the Sooners simply ran out of gas.
“We had some things there where we ended up being one block away”, said offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley. “We could tell at that moment that they were done, physically and maybe even a little bit mentally”.
Clemson (14-0) dominated the second half and shut down Oklahoma’s high-scoring offense, which had averaged 52 points over its past seven games.
As for M.Stoops, Clemson’s offense couldn’t have been much more one dimensional – granted, it was one hell of a dimension but still just one nonetheless – and yet the Tigers essentially ran the ball at will from start to finish.
“We were in position a lot of times, but we missed tackles”, Oklahoma defensive end Eric Striker said.
So when he threw that interception, I was shocked, but it also served as a nice reminder of what makes him so good. “That hurt us the most”.
Clemson will take on the victor of Alabama versus Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl at 8 p.m. The 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship will be held in the University of Phoenix Stadium at 8:30 p.m. on January 11.
Watson played like Heisman finalist.
Any time Clemson lost a big game in recent years, it was supposedly referred to as “Clemonsing”.
He left without talking to reporters. That ties the school season record that was also accomplished in 2011 when Clemson had four top-25 wins.
Just what are you supposed to do with that defensive line? “At times he was scrambling around and waiting for something to come open”. The Tigers went 75 yards in 12 plays, needing to convert only one third down on an 11-yard pass to Hunter Renfrow to the Sooners’ 4-yard line.
Later on the same drive, a fake punt fooled the Sooners and turned the game around.
Alabama returns to the championship game after a two-year hiatus and will be playing for coach Nick Saban’s fourth championship with the Crimson Tide. Perine, the team’s leading rusher and a proponent of some of quotes that angered Clemson’s players, finished with 58 yards and one TD on 15 carries while fighting through an ankle injury in the second half.
Clemson’s defense made that critical stop when OU went for it on 4-and-1 at the CU 30.
The ‘ol direct snap to Perine with Mayfield used as a decoy play?
Watson did not have his best passing night, completing 16 of 31 passes for 187 yards with a touchdown and a misguided interception in the red zone at the end of the first half.

“Most everybody on the team is coming back, so this is the beginning of next year”, senior linebacker Frank Shannon said.
