Tigers trade closer Joakim Soria to Pirates
The Detroit Tigers have become sellers with a vengeance over the last few days, and their trade of David Price to Toronto looks like it won’t be their last move.

One day after the Detroit Tigers accepted reality regarding their non-existent postseason chances and made the decision to “reboot” their roster, general manager Dave Dombrowski hasn’t wasted any time in moving two of his pending free agents.
The Pirates lead the National League wild card standings are trying to catch the Cardinals in the NL Central.
“Soria is a veteran closer, a late-inning reliever who’s been there, done that”.
The 31-year-old Soria was having a fine year with the Tigers, stepping in as the closer when Joe Nathan injured his elbow during the first week of the season.
Soria has been throwing harder this year and throwing his fastball more than ever, and the only flaw in his performance to date has been his bizarrely high home run rate, mostly on four-seamers.
He hasn’t been dominant in that span, though, giving up 11 hits, walking seven and hitting two batters in 13 1/3 innings, though he had 16 strikeouts.
In addition to trading away Adames, the Tigers also dealt Eugenio Suarez (Alfredo Simon trade), Devon Travis (Anthony Gose trade) and Domingo Leyba (Shane Greene trade) in the offseason, and designated Hernan Perez for assignment earlier this season, leaving both shortstop and second base a bit barren throughout the system.
Uehara has struck out 42 batters and walked just six in 36.2 innings this year, posting an 0.873 WHIP.
