Tigers win tainted by Collin’s “salute” to fans

Tigers outfielder Tyler Collins will not face a suspension from Major League Baseball for his obscene gesture directed at fans on Monday night. And oh yes, he went 0-4, striking out twice.

Martinez will hit second in the series finale on Thursday afternoon. He became the second Detroit starter to complete seven innings, limiting the Indians to four hits – two of which were homers – while walking two and whiffing 10 for his first double-digit strikeout game since July 29. Offensively, Jed Lowrie leads Oakland with 24 hits, Josh Reddick has 11 RBI and Khris Davis has three home runs. Yonder Alonso hit a two out single and Marcus Simien hit a two run home run to give the A’s the 5-0 lead. Bassitt is making his third career start against Detroit after going 1-1 with five runs allowed over 14 frames in the first two turns.Sanchez has yet to make it through six innings and was ripped for seven runs – six earned – and nine hits over 2 1/3 frames in a loss to Cleveland on Saturday.

“That’s very safe to say”, manager Bob Melvin said. Stephen Vogt chipped a double down the left-field line to move runners to second and third. “We got ahead – I think that was a big thing, just getting ahead and staying ahead”. “I think this was similar to the outings that he had toward the end of a year ago”.

Pelfrey almost made it through the seventh, but after retiring the first two batters, he allowed Yonder Alonso’s single and Semien’s fifth homer of the season. So when we come home and get booed, it’s tough to swallow. J.D. Martinez then grounded out to close out the game.

It was cold – just 47 degrees at first pitch – and Hill needed 25 pitches to get through the first inning.

-New York Mets catcher Travis d’Arnaud was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right rotator cuff strain, the team announced.

NOTES: The Tigers will promote top prospect Michael Fulmer to make his major-league debut at Minnesota on Friday, manager Brad Ausmus confirmed after the game.
