The Paris attacks suggested a degree of coordination and sophistication never seen before, not even in January’s attack that was carried out by supporters of Islamic State (IS) militants.
“At this time, we know of no specific or credible threats of an attack on the USA homeland of the type that occurred in Paris tonight”, DHS secretary Jeh Johnson says in a statement released to the press.
The University of Denver confirms they have six students studying overseas and worked to confirm their safety on Friday night.
At least 100 people are dead dead following a series of what appear to be coordinated attacks across Paris late Friday, according to French police.
It is still unclear who was behind the attacks.
“We will not hesitate to adjust our security posture, as appropriate, to protect the American people”, an Federal Bureau of Investigation spokesperson said in a statement. Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton said the U.S. must stand side-by-side every step of the way with France and its allies around the world to wage and win the struggle against terrorism and violent extremism.
“This is a heart-breaking situation, and obviously those of us here in the United States know what it’s like”. If you are calling from the United States, please dial 011-33-1-43-12-22-22, and then 0 (zero), and ask to speak with the Embassy Duty Officer.
Police in NY say they’ve deployed extra units to crowded areas of the city “out of an abundance of caution” in the wake of the attacks in Paris, France.
