Tim Krul uses Twitter to update fans on Saturday night injury blow

Newcastle are sweating on Tim Krul after their goalkeeper suffered a knee injury playing for Holland in their 2-1 win in Kazakhstan on Saturday.

Krul, 27, was forced from the field after he fell awkwardly in the latter stages of Saturday’s clash at the Astana Arena.

Blind told reporters: “It looks like a bad injury, Tim landed the wrong way”.

The club’s third-choice keeper is Rob Elliot, who has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for their final European Qualifier in Poland. Thanks for all the get well wishes.

Toon boss Steve McClaren is without backup shot stopper Karl Darlow, who is out of action with a foot injury.

The United keeper has undergone scans on his knee and is a serious doubt for the Magpies’ next game with Norwich City and the Wear-Tyne derby with Sunderland.

Holland, who have endured a nightmare qualification campaign for Euro 2016, have a keeping crisis of their own with first-choice Jasper Cillessen joining Krul on the treatment table.

The Oranje won the game 2-1, thanks to goals from Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and Wesley Sneijder.
