Tim Tebow cranks dinger in second workout with Mets
Former NFL QB and current Mets prospect Tim Tebow.

In his second practice at the New York Mets’ complex in Port St. Lucie, Florida, quarterback-turned-baseball player Tim Tebow hit a homer while working out.
Tim Tebow catches a ball at the fence during a drill at the New York Mets’ complex, Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
The 2007 Heisman Trophy victor and former National Football League quarterback was asked if he heard from the New England Patriots about a possible tryout. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson defended it earlier this month, saying before a game in Atlanta the team wouldn’t spend that kind of money “so we can sell a couple hundred dollars’ worth of T-shirts in Kingsport”, referring to the Tennessee city where NY has a rookie league team.
It went to the Mets training complex here, and took the path from Tradition Field past Willie Mays Drive, hung a right at Tom Seaver Curve and ended up way back at Field No. 4.

Tebow will practice with the Mets through Friday before heading to Auburn, Ala., to fulfill his broadcasting duties at the LSU-Auburn game. So far, so good, though.
The way Tebow sees things, he has already arrived. They go through boring drills, play meaningless games and you’d normally have to pay people to watch. “You get more upright and you can move back in the batter’s box and now you can get more extended and use your height”.
With about 250 fans preening for a glimpse, and 30 members of the media following behind, Tebow went through a routine similar to the prior day, but he felt a little more at ease this time. It came in front of a crowd that was smaller than the group that showed up on day one. He said he needed supplies, specifically drinks and almonds.
“A lot of people might say, “You have a chip on your shoulder, “‘ Tebow said, according to USA Today Sports”. “I just want to be someone to pursue what I believe in, what I’m passionate about”.
He’s also finding time to stay on top of his other job as an analyst with the SEC Network, with time management not an issue. A news helicopter circled over the field where Tebow worked for more than an hour.
But, Sheffield says there’s room for optimism given Tebow’s athleticism, and, something else he’s noticed.

“The goal would be to have a career in the big leagues”, Tebow said at his workout last month. After looking unsure of himself for a few more throws, a Mets coach said something to Tebow, and he looked fine throwing after that. Tebow said he will just focus on the workout between the lines. I mean, I think that when people have belief in something, or conviction about something, trying to stand for that, is a good thing. “And then it’s all about trying to stand for it the right way”, Tebow said.
