Tim Tebow receives invitation to play baseball from Maryland team

“Tim’s athletic ability, his work ethic, his leadership and his competiveness were evident in football and will show in baseball”, Tebow’s agent Jimmy Sexton told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Who knows if that is true or not, but considering Tebow’s age, time away from the sport, the fact he was just claiming he could still play quarterback in the National Football League as recently as two weeks ago, and that he pretty much has a job sitting there for him with the SEC Network, it does come off as a bit of an oddity he would make such a decision. “I have seen Tim’s workouts, and people inside and outside the industry – scouts, executives, players and fans – will be impressed by his talent”. He last played organized baseball in high school. “I think this is the ideal situation for Tim to showcase his skills in a game situation”. It was fun for a while, but eventually that meant somebody was going to ask actual baseball players and coaches about the idea, and Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter had no interest in Tebow’s baseball dream.

Tebow hasn’t played baseball since high school, but at least one former MLB All-Star believes the 2007 Heisman Trophy victor has a legitimate shot.

He held a tryout with the Dodgers prior to the season, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, and is expected to hold another for major-league teams at the end of the month.

Former major league catcher Chad Moeller has trained Tebow at this baseball school in Scottsdale and said in a statement that Tebow “has the skill set and potential to achieve his goal of playing in the major leagues”.

Many, perhaps including Showalter, think Tebow is pursuing a baseball career purely for the attention.

Boston Red Sox area scout Tom Kotchman was with the Los Angeles Angels when he attempted to get Tebow to choose baseball over football.

The Yankees have a roster spot opening up this week, so who knows what could happen. If he would have been there his senior year he definitely would have had a good chance to be drafted”, Hargett, said “œHe had leverage to his swing. He had some good power. He had had enough arm for that position.
