Tim Tebow signs minor league contract with New York Mets

The Mets did not guarantee an invitation to major-league spring training in 2017 and are permitting Tebow to fulfill his employment obligation as a studio host with SEC Network.

The New York Mets today announced that the club has signed outfielder Tim Tebow to a minor league contract. “If you ever need a place to practice your swing stop by NYSEG Stadium”.

Only two of Major League Baseball’s 30 teams – the Chicago Cubs and the Oakland Athletics – did not attend his open workout at the University of Southern California. In his National Football League career, which included regular season appearances with the Broncos and the New York Jets, Tebow appeared in 34 games, throwing for 2,422 total yards and 17 touchdowns.

He also tried out for both New England the Philadelphia but never played during the regular season for either team.

Before he joined the Mets, Tebow had been linked to the Braves. He last played organized baseball as a junior in high school. Tebow indicated his interest in playing professional baseball last month, and worked out for 46 scouts representing 28 teams in L.A. last week. “There wasn’t a season that went by that it wasn’t something that I thought about”.

Stephanie Druley, ESPN’s senior VP of event and studio production, released the following statement regarding Tebow.

Tebow’s agent for baseball, Brodie Van Wagenen told reporters a number of pro teams remained to meet with Tebow following his workout a week ago.

But while it will likely be a boost to ticket sales for the New York Mets, there are rumors that the Tim Tebow signing is far from a publicity stunt. “But I’m looking forward to putting in the work, and I felt like this was the best fit”. Tebow gets to jump ahead in the line just because he is famous for non-baseball reasons.

On a positive note, according to the New York Daily News, Tebow demonstrated excellent power.
