Time running short for changes to North Carolina LGBT law
Workers may still use state law to sue employers over discrimination.

“The legislature was probably willing to make some changes”, to HB2, Fitzgerald said, but any proposed changes to the law “weren’t enough” for the LGBT advocates.
Although the revision restores the right to sue, it puts the statute of limitations at one year instead of three years, which was the time limit before House Bill 2 was passed.
The House passed the change by a 82-18 vote.
Lawmakers did vote on one change, and that is to approve the transfer of half a million dollars from a disaster relief fund to be set aside for legal fees to defend House Bill 2.
When asked if this means Republican leaders are willing to concede losing the NBA All-Star game, because of not making more drastic changes to the law, he said he doesn’t believe the NBA will leave after this change is made.
“Lawmakers may have run out the clock on this short session, but they won’t be able to run away from North Carolina’s voters in November”. A number of people in that group, however, reportedly changed their minds after receiving calls from A.G. Cooper. “Berger and Gov. McCrory will be complicit in putting North Carolina in incredibly deep economic jeopardy”, Sgro said. It would be the biggest protest to date.
The NBA All-Star Game is scheduled for February 2017.
Moore’s announcement came a day after the National Basketball Association and the Charlotte Hornets said they do not support “the version of the bill” that was circulating earlier in the week. A TIMELINE LOOK BACK AT 100 DAYS OF HB2″North Carolina Values Coalition is not opposed to the reported technical correction bill that intends to reinstate an individual’s ability to file suit for discrimination under state law”.
“There was all this talk of draft legislation”, Moore said. Republican lawmakers on Friday night argued they were changing a section of the law because it has been misinterpreted.
“I am woefully embarrassed that this is the result of two and a half months of conversation about the most disastrous piece of legislation in the state’s history”, Sgro said of the modifications, according to CNN affiliate WRAL.
The Human Rights Campaign issued a statement Friday saying that a full repeal of the law is the only acceptable solution.

Senate leader Phil Berger, R-Rockingham, said the change on workplace lawsuits answered requests from McCrory and business leaders. HB2 was created to block a controversial Charlotte non-discrimination ordinance, part of which allowed transgender people to use bathrooms and locker rooms of the gender they identify with, rather than their biological gender.
