There were so many people, Bannock County Democrats chose to let people who just wanted to submit a vote to do it early.

The Washington state presidential precinct caucuses will take place at 10 a.m. on March 26.

Bernie Sanders is planning to make his second public appearance of his campaign in Utah ahead of the state’s Tuesday caucus. Democrats can find or confirm their caucus site by visiting www.DemCaucus.com, where registered voters will also have the opportunity to complete and print a pre-registration form for the event. Seventeen-year-olds are allowed to caucus in Idaho and several other states as long as they’ll turn 18 before the November 8 general election.

Democratic Party Chair Peter Corroon estimates that 80,000 Utah Democrats showed up to caucus, easily breaking the record of 63,000 in 2008.

Jane Sanders, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said she thinks her husband can do well in Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, in the heart of Republican-dominated eastern Idaho, Democrats in Clark County and Jefferson County will caucus together.

Some young voters are eagerly anticipating their first foray into politics at the caucus.

In 1968, Democratic establishment candidate Hubert Humphrey lost to Nixon, and in 1980, Ted Kennedy, whose timing was off, lost the primary race to incumbent President Jimmy Carter, who then lost to Ronald Reagan in the general election.

Justin Pallister, a 17-year-old Meridian High School senior, said his participation in the Ada County caucus will be his first time taking part in an election. And signs suggest they might be on track. He’s rooting for a little-known candidate, San Diego businessman Rocky De La Fuente.

Caucus-goers will decide among four options: Clinton, Sanders, De La Fuente and uncommitted.

Four of Idaho’s most populated counties had to make last-minute changes to expand or add new caucus venues to accommodate the expected large crowds.

State party spokesman Dean Ferguson says that’s the kind of challenge the party likes to deal with. After the state convention, 27 delegates will be sent to the national nominating convention in July.
