Time Warner CEO Says DC Films Have Some Room for Improvement

This has been a rocky year for DC Films, with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice underperforming against expectations (though still earning $873 million worldwide) and tanking with critics, Seth Grahame-Smith having been replaced by Rick Famuyiwa as The Flash director, Ben Affleck taking on an executive producer role on Warner Bros.

Warner Bros.is planning to make big changes to their DC Comics movies. The DC Comics characters. have a little more lightness in them than maybe what you saw in those movies, so we’re thinking about that.

We’ve already heard from DC Films boss Geoff Johns with regards to the studio adopting a new, lighter approach to the movies starting with Justice League, and now Time-Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes has stated on an investor conference call that there is “a little room for improvement”, but it’s something they are addressing. We delivered what we wanted to do. We wondered if the long version of Batman vs Superman would have been better critical cinema, but maybe the fans are just too severe.

Given the DCEU’s track record, “right on course or better” is kind of a worryingly vague statement, but at least Bewkes cited the success of the individual actors in bringing to life such famous fan favorites.

According to Variety Bewkes also spoke positively about Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Wonder Woman.
